Economic Development
The role of Economic
Development is to insure the realistic development of the economic base
and environment of the Mikisew Cree First Nation in a manner that maximizes
the enhancement and utilization of it’s human resources and lands. This
department is responsible for the development of the plans and strategies
to achieve the economic goals and objectives of the Leadership that will
advance this First Nation and it’s people toward the Mission Statement
and economic independence.
The focus of the Economic Development is to provide the consultative and
support services to the Leadership, the Mikisew Cree First Nation as a
whole or the individual member to insure economic opportunities at both
the local and regional level can be taken full advantage of. The priorities
of the department are:
To insure the development
of a local economic base for the benefit of the government, communities
and people of Mikisew Cree First Nation.
To insure the development of a strong regional position that will enable
the Mikisew Cree First Nation to participate in and benefit from resource
sharing and economic opportunities.
The main functions of this department are summarized in the following
descriptions:
To determine the feasibility of and then to develop and implement economic
initiatives that are compatible with the strengths and resources of the
Mikisew Cree First Nation.
To develop the plans and strategies toward the desired economic goals
of the Mikisew Cree First Nation.
To provide the administrative, professional and technical support and
services required to ensure and enhance the continued viability of the
economic interests and initiatives of the Mikisew Cree First Nation.
To access and utilize the financial resources of other institutions
and agencies to achieve the economic goals and objectives of the Mikisew
Cree First Nation.
To determine and develop reports on the performance of the economic
interests of the Mikisew Cree First Nation.
To facilitate the development of the capability and capacity of the
Mikisew Cree First Nation to govern and manage it’s economic sector, investments
and business interests.
