Education Department
With the Mission
Statement always in mind, the Mikisew Education department focuses on
encouraging and supporting the individual in exercising their self-determination
and assuming the responsibility for acquiring an education toward self-reliance.
Through a well established network with numerous post-secondary, vocational
and technical institutions, Mikisew Education can facilitate and support
an individual’s entry or re-entry into education or training courses leading
to their chosen career path. In coordination with all departments and
programs of the Mikisew Cree First Nation and other agencies, Mikisew
Education can insure either the preparation of an individual’s entry into
education mainstream or the support a student may require to assume and
continue the responsibility for their education.
The programs they administer are as follows:
Student Services: Provides funding to Mikisew Cree First Nation
people for post-secondary education in the form of student loans, grants,
bursaries and scholarships. Assistance in the application process and
follow-up services are provided to the new student applying for either
entrance to an education institution or funding. All the services provided
by this program are outlined in a Students Policy Handbook.
Pre-Career Referral: Provides referral to the Employment Services
Office for students requiring funding for pre-career preparation.
Drop-out Recovery: On a continuous basis, works closely with the
community school in the development and implementation of drop-out recovery
programs and initiatives.
Cultural and Youth Programs: This department maintains an on-going
emphasis on the development of programs and initiatives for the youth
and to support their cultural interests.
The Mikisew Education departments has brochures available for members
who are interested that outline all the educational programs and services
it offers in addition to the necessary application forms. For more information
