The Education department is capably managed by Marlyn Simpson, Education Coordinator. The Education department is located in the Community Services office in the Multiplex building in “downtown” Fort Chipewyan. The Education Department operates two programs:
Post Secondary Student Support Program (PSSSP)
This program provides funding to eligible students to attend education or academic upgrading after completion of public school. Funding is provided for tuition, books, travel, and living allowance for students to attend post-secondary institutions outside of Fort Chipewyan or their home communities. It is the philosophy of the Education Department that all of our students that meet the criteria should be supported to the extent possible to ensure they are able to succeed in their studies, for the long-term benefit of not only the student but for the Mikisew Cree First Nation as a whole.
The deadline for post secondary has ended june30,2009. The next deadline for sponsoring students will be November 15,2009 for the winter semister. Make sure all applicants will complete the application.
Athabasca Delta Community School
This is a public school located in Fort Chipewyan, serving grades K – 12. Part of the Northland School Division, this school is operated by an independent school board in compliance with Alberta education laws. Funding for Mikisew Cree First Nation students attending the school is provided from INAC in accordance with the Treaty obligation for education. The funds flow from INAC to MCFN and through to the ADCS school.
